Lume De Biqueira - Spain

Lume de Biqueira (Fire from the shoe tip) is probably the most spectacular Pipe Band all over Spain. Founded in 1998, since the beginning, when their music was very standard, close to Galician tradition, Lume de Biqueira has developed a unique fusion style, which could be named Latin Celtic Music.

Lume de Biqueira gives to their performances, both stage and parade (or Tattoo), this special flavour from the South. A high power in stage performances, with the addition of other instruments (electric bass, guitar, fiddle, Caribbean percussion, etc.), and a rhythmic choreography in parade.

During the season the Band alternates local performances with weekly rehearsals, but in the last years its international appearances in renowned festivals, have given a new dimension to the group: Festival Interceltique du Lorient (Brittany), The Belfast Tattoo, Festival des Filets Bleus Concarneau (Brittany), The Glasgow Tattoo, Festival Saulele Raudona (Lithuania), etc.

In previous years the Band also played in Dublin St. Patrick's Parade (2003 Best Overall Band, 2004 Spirit of Parade), Festival de Agrigento Sicilia (Italy), with the Chieftains in Valladolid (Spain), and many times with the well-known Galician piper Carlos Nunez.

Lume de Biqueira has also played for Pope John Paul II and Their Royal Majesties of Spain, and has taken part in some TV programs and films.

About 60 musicians form the Band who also have a school to teach Piping Art (about 30 pupils between pipe and percussion).
