The Choir of Belfast High School

Belfast High School Senior Choir currently has a membership of around sixty singers. Pupils can join the choir from Year 10 and most continue to participate until they leave school at the end of Year 14.

The choir contributes annually to several public school events, including Prize Distribution, The Christmas Carol Service and the Spring Concert. Regular outside engagements include participating in the Ulster University Carol Service and the BBC Radio Ulster School Choir of the Year competition.

In recent years the Choir has collaborated with Dominican College Fortwilliam in the FISCA Christmas Choir Competition where they were prize winners for three years in a row and also the Abbey Singers in a joint concert in 2016. Members regularly audition for the Ulster Youth Choir and this year ten members have been successful in gaining places.

The repertoire of the choir is wide-ranging, including classical music by such composers as Mozart and Rutter, as well as choral arrangements of show and pop tunes, which appeal to both the choir members and audiences alike. The Musical Director of the choir is Stephen Cairns and the Accompanist is Carolyn Davison.
